2002 Full Moon Reflections:
Crystal Ball Moon
By Pythia
Peay
The
December 30th Cancer Full Moon is charged with symbolism and astrological
import. This lunation falls just before the New Year, linking the
lunar cycle with the turn of the yearly wheel. Thus the astral atmosphere
is thick with reflection on times past as well as dreams of what the next
cycle might bring to pass. The psychic realms are further stirred
by a partial lunar eclipse, when the shadow of Earth falls across the Moon.
Symbolically, as the Earth eclipses the Moon, the more sensitive, feeling
side of this month's Cancer Moon may be overridden by more earthy, practical,
and political issues. The Sun in the pragmatic sign of Capricorn further
emphasizes this tendency. And finally, there is an exact Mars/Pluto square
at 16 degrees Sagittarius - stimulating the ongoing Saturn/Pluto opposition,
activating all middle degrees of the mutable signs, and arousing potent
energies. This powerful astrological brew is sweetened, however, by Venus
conjuncting the Sun and Jupiter conjuncting the Moon.
How
to attune our souls to the cosmos at this time? Because this Full Moon
ushers in the New Year - a time of new beginnings, hopes and wishes
- it is a propitious time to peer into the "crystal ball" of the future.
Traditionally, the Moon is linked to all forms of magic and psychic seeing.
Yet with this month's lunar eclipse obscuring the natural light of the
Moon, the message may be that we must turn to the Moon within our inner
psyches for insight. To do this, find a quiet place where you can
spend some time in solitude. After harmonizing your breath and stilling
your mind, picture the full moon as a globe within your heart. After
spending a few minutes on this concentration, formulate a question that
you would like to have answered. It may take the form of a riddle
- how can I do my art, yet support myself at the same time? Or, it may
be that you are wrestling with an important personal issue - should I leave
my partner, or stay? Perhaps the question turns on your career, finding
a spiritual discipline, or raising a child.
Immersed
in an atmosphere of lunar magic, imagine next that you have paid a visit
to a wise seer. Perhaps this seer is a wise elder woman, or a sage
man. Or, maybe your seer is a gypsy, dressed in colorful clothes.
Your seer may look like an archangel, radiant with light; or appear in
the guise of a humble and ordinary person. Seated before your seer,
in whatever form, you feel enveloped in an atmosphere of caring compassion.
Gazing into the seer's eyes, a deep sense of inner knowing is awakened
within you. An awareness of the intelligence underlying life pervades your
soul, kindling a trust in the natural order of things. Then, just as you
are about to ask your question, the seer unveils a beautiful crystal ball,
perfectly round and glowing, just like the Full Moon within your heart.
A soft luminescence lights up its diamond-like interior, drawing you ever
closer to peer into its depths. As you do, you begin to see visions: shooting
stars, spinning planets, whirling galaxies. Your soul is drawn into a dance
with these stellar beings.
As
you dance with the stars, you feel as if you have dived into the depths
of life itself. Suddenly, everything in your life becomes as clear as the
crystal moon ball within which you float. As if from far away, you
hear the seer give voice to the question within your heart: the words reverberate
throughout space, and the Universe itself appears to be listening to your
question, pondering its meaning. Then, slowly, the Universe responds. It
is an answer that wordlessly dawns within you like a sunrise on a distant
planet. Like a vessel, you feel filled with infinite knowledge. You simply
know. Liberated from uncertainty, you smile at the answer that has
been granted you.
Ever
so gradually, you feel yourself returning to your position before the seer.
Once again, you gaze into each other's eyes. This time, it is as if the
seer has also seen and understood what you now know to be true. With
a bow of gratitude, you depart. Where before there had been a question
in your heart and anxiety in your mind, there now exists clarity and serenity.
Thus you enter the next yearly cycle of your life with the moon in your
heart, a deep sense of inner peace - and an intuitive knowing that all
is as it should be and that all will be well.

New Year, from MoonCircles!!
