Astrology Highlights for June/July 2001:

Cancer New Moon 'Scope:

by Dana Gerhardt

Harry arrived somewhat breathlessly at my office:  “My sister heard from an astrologer that the summer planets are aligned so that good people will be punished and the bad ones will prosper.  Is this true?”  If it were, we’d all have just one choice:  We’d have to become as bad as we can be.

But that’s not my advice.  Consider the situation:  We’ve got a solar eclipse on the summer solstice; Mars and Mercury are retrograde; the Sun, Moon, Nodes, Mercury and Jupiter are bunched together opposite Mars; Saturn opposes Pluto.  This planetary picture suggests being in a washing machine during the agitation and spin cycles.  Or as an astrologer friend suggested, “It’s like standing in a wind tunnel.”  This kind of talk usually scares people.  But a better way to hear the first metaphor is “Oh, this means I can get clean now!”  Or the second, “I can blow quickly to new places!”

Case in point:  Last week on a hot day, approaching the dead center of Mars’ retrograde period, I entered the house with a pair of scissors in my hand (I’d been trimming roses).  As Sun and Mars headed for their opposition turning point, Bill, my ex, the father of my child, a sometimes friend and sometimes enemy, was inspired by something I said to return with a “F***ing Bitch!”  I felt the pair of scissors in my hands, I considered his bare chest in front of me.  I was reeling with the weight of years of unresolved conversations between us.

At the turning point of the Mars retrograde cycle, we can be overwhelmed by a sudden emergence of Mars -- as deep rage, passion, aggression, sexual energy, intense emotional heat.  Events can reveal issues that need to come into conscious awareness.  Not surprisingly, this is often tied into the house Mars is transiting. Conditions in this part of your chart are unraveling in some way – things may feel chaotic, tense, stalled, volatile or frustrating. You may not feel you’re making enough progress, but the intent in the festering energy is to loosen old complexes and open new doors.

Mars is transiting my 4th house of home and family.  As many of you know, I’m moving.  Even though Bill and I were no longer partners, he still lived part time in my house, and the odd family we crafted needed to be loosened and reworked.  Of course, we thought we were doing that – but our mutual explosion quickly showed what we weren’t dealing with.  We both had plenty of old resentments that needed clearing if our futures would indeed unfold as brightly as we wished.  This was just one of many realizations Mars brought me at the Last Quarter moon.  I suspect Mars brought you revelations too.  Consider how they fit into your chart and keep them in mind at this New Moon.

The New Moon solar eclipse appears across from the house where Mars falls, and may have already been agitating.  The weeks before an eclipse generally bring a build-up of energy.  As with the retrograde, things may have been feeling chaotic, tense, stalled, volatile or frustrating.  But it’s a good thing.  It’s the washing machine.  It’s the wind tunnel.  Debris is loosening to help you clear a new path for the future.  You’re being whooshed along towards your better self.

Good people can prosper; this can be a very positive summer for change.  Mars in the night sky offers unique inspiration too, being closer and brighter than it’s been in thirteen years.  Look for its brilliant orange light low in the southeast after around nine pm.

Retrograde Mercury goes direct June 27.

The Horoscope for July
by Lynn Koiner, P.M.A.F.A.

NOTE TO READER: These dates are based upon electional techniques. All of the dates apply to all of the signs. I select certain dates for each sign but these dates apply to all of the signs. Do not simply read your own sign – read all of the signs for significant dates! You will see the theme of the best dates being July 7, 8, 12, the morning of the 20th and 25.

CAPRICORN (December 22-January 19): You may find yourself more sensitive to the July 5 Lunar Eclipse. The Moon in your sign is not supported and you may become aware that someone, possibly a significant relationship, will not be there for you. In professional matters, temporary assistance will help you get through any difficulties.

AQUARIUS (January 20-February 17): The Moon in Aquarius on July 7-8 has great aspects! Get started early with new and innovative ideas, working with high tech resolutions and discoveries, and look for those eureka moments – this includes important relationship meetings. Your controversial ideas will find support and appreciation. Social contacts will be important this weekend.

PISCES (February 18-March 19): After July 12, both Mercury and Jupiter will be in Water signs (Cancer). At this time, a sensitive communication style can assist in resolving any crises, especially those that occur on July 19-20. Romantic crises, possibly over insensitivity or neglect, and financial crises, possibly over indiscriminate spending, will need to be addressed.

ARIES (March 20-April 19): The great dates for you Fiery types are July 7 and 8 but, on July 12, the Moon in Aries is successful only if assertions are tempered with sensitivity for the feelings of others. With Jupiter in Cancer, people relate to those who come across like family -- having a common bond, a common history and common experiences or relating over a good meal!

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): As Mars Stations around July 19, you feel that gnaw of discontent that needs to express your inner truth. Temper this with "feelings words" as Jupiter in Cancer after the 12th only relates at this level. The morning of the 20th is a good time to chose your words carefully and express what the family or the group needs to hear. A time for new beginnings.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): There are sufficient Air sign transits this month to make for mental stimulation, good travel and socializing, especially on July 7, 8 and the 25th. July 17 through 19 can feel quite frustrating through unspoken expectations and emotional displays by others. On July 23, others will be hard to please-- why bother! Take a mental health break!

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Problems in the home or in the workplace? After the 12th, and especially on the 12th, sit everyone down, use feeling words and find out what the problems are, how they are feeling and ask what can be done. This is a good domestic and managerial approach for your sign. If that does not work, take them out to dinner and discuss the issues one-on-one.

LEO (July 23-August 22): You may not understand what is going on until September. Histrionics accomplish little in the long-term. A good leader is nurturing and supportive in July. There is some missing information or details by the morning of the 21st and, while matters proceed smoothly for awhile, you will be in for a surprise! Something gets dropped for something better – let it happen!

VIRGO (August 23-September 22): Too much may be happening for your sensibilities and need for order this month. Don’t let it get on your nerves on July 9-10, 17-18 – complaining will not solve anything. On the 23rd, this disagreements can prove costly. When the Moon is in Scorpio on July 27-28, get your facts, get them straight and make your presentation.

LIBRA (September 23-October 22): There is sufficient Air element to make July a socially appealing month, especially on July 7-8 and 25. You may feel a bit "out-of-touch" regarding how people are feeling this month. Your objectivity and diplomatic skills will be needed on the 17-18 and 29-30.

SCORPIO ( October 23-November 21): See this month as a good time for cultivating spiritual awareness, taking courses to enhance your psychic and intuitive abilities – try giving a tarot card reading in order to get your point across to others. This approach just seems more palatable and acceptable this month, especially after the 12th.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21): When the theme of this period seems to be nurturing the feelings of others, this is a time to take the month off to back-packing in Canada! By the 3rd week of July, you will just be pushing to get it off your chest – but wait. "To everything there is a season..." and summer is not your season where relationships are concerned. Action, activity and having adventures with like-minded people is a better approach.
