Cancer New Moon

Sun and Moon at 29.08 Cancer

Sabian Symbol: A Greek Muse weighing newborn twins in golden scales: The
intuitive weighing of alternatives."

What does listening to the zodiac do for us at each moon cycle?  It attunes us to the yet living quality of this ancient rhythm.  It sharpens our senses to new ways to bring ourselves forth.  It puts us on the alert -- as an animal living in the wild -- to something new in the air...

Cancer New Moon 'Scope:

by Dana Gerhardt

It’s a second new moon in Cancer, and Mars is finally direct.  What may have fizzled, slowed or wandered a bit aimlessly since May 11 can go forward now.  But of course, like life, the planets are always doing something. Mars is joined by Pluto and opposite the pairing of Venus and Saturn.  What you’re compelled to do may clash with what you feel you deserve.  Or what you feel you deserve might be denied by the time.  Inner or outer, things could feel like a tug of war.  Oppositions sometimes take literal shape as a real opponent.  You might welcome such a contest, if it comes; it can challenge you into new activity, into wiser, more thoughtful strategies.  We all need a good enemy from time to time as much as need our good friends.  If you’ve got either or both, honor them at this new moon.  Consider them attendants for your next new birth.

The Saturn/Pluto opposition is exact on August 5, just after the full moon.  I tend to think of this pair as the Big Squeeze.  You’ve got Push on the one end and Shove on the other.  When you’re in the middle, if you don’t Resist, you’re going to Transform.  Some astrologers suggest this Saturn/Pluto aspect will drive one more nail into prosperity’s coffin – that we’ll see continued shortages and cutbacks with the economy and global energy supplies; or, global tensions can ignite.  Even without the planetary perspective, this hardly seems like shocking news.  But astrology’s cyclic vantage can help us feel wiser about it all.  This represents a personal and global turning point in a 35-year cycle.  The planetary opposition signals an important turn along the wheel, that will ultimately help keep the universal engine going.  It’s the wise one who feels for the time and tacks accordingly.

Wise moon-sailors will further reckon we are in Cancer’s waters now.  Jupiter entered Cancer on July 12, expanding our desire for the Big Universal Mom to come into our hearts to comfort and save us.  It’s nurture we want!  Security!  Cozy blankets and yummy food!  And why not…  Just beware of gripping life so tightly, that the Big Mother’s strokes can’t reach you.  Every couple of days, pull up a rocking chair and listen for her lullaby.

Meditate on the Mother in the Moon, Honey in the Heart, with Pythia...
"Though the stars above may sometimes disorient, they never fail to offer
a way through the labyrinth. Indeed, this new moon offers a spiritual
perspective that can guide us toward the sacred center at the core of our
being.  For while the ongoing planetary opposition between Sagittarius and
Gemini has made for some head-swirling times, the four planets and north node now in Cancer - especially jovial Jupiter -  show that the secret to
resolving our problems lies not in our head, but in our hearts. ....."

Learn From the Rabbit in the Moon, with Dana...
"I recalled what one of my Buddhist teachers once said, “Giving up and opening oneself is not particularly painful, when you begin to do it.  But the idea of giving up and opening is very painful.”  My experiment in letting go felt very much like the rabbit jumping into cool fire; it didn’t hurt once the deed was done. ...."
