| What
does listening to the zodiac do for us at each moon cycle? It attunes
us to the yet living quality of this ancient rhythm. It sharpens
our senses to new ways to bring ourselves forth. It puts us on the
alert -- as an animal living in the wild -- to something new in the air... |
Cancer New Moon
June/July 2002
by Dana
Gerhardt
The Cancer New Moon always
comes about now. Her eyes are kind but vigilant, watching you like
a pot that might boil over. She carries safety pins, a damp cloth
for soothing brows, colored band-aids, and a miracle cleaning fluid from
her grandmother. Her people always live by water. She moves
that way, like a stream down a mountain, soothing all the hard edges, finding
every secret, blessing the roots of nearby trees. For a long time
I wondered if she was sincere, if her gifts would evaporate once she disappeared.
I’ve since learned that she means business. Don’t be fooled
when she sits so calmly next to you, like a mother by a sleeping infant.
She’s feeding you, with quiet spoons of strength, protection, and the knowledge
that wherever you are is home. If you accept what she offers this
cycle, it can nurture you for months to come.
It doesn’t always happen
this way, but two hot planets are making the trip with Cancer this New
Moon: generous Jupiter and a somewhat secretive Mars.
The three of them got together at a solstice barbecue. In a circle
of lawn chairs, they discussed the future. Jupiter saw something
big next February. Mars anticipated a wonderful challenge in mid-Spring.
Loving the present so deeply, the Moon kept her eyes on this month.
Each
vowed to bring us a pertinent message. These intuitions will
behave like stones dropped in water, widening our awareness into ever larger
circles in our future. The trick is being alert when they spring
it on us: while parking at Wal-Mart, over frappuccinos at Starbucks,
or perhaps when your head leaves the pillow tomorrow morning. Happy
New Moon.

Meditate on The Soul of the
Moon, with Pythia...
"Like an empty vessel,
the crescent New Moon fills with the solar power of the Sun; likewise,
the soul empty of self receives the light of Spirit. This life-giving
spiritual nourishment is the esoteric meaning of Cancer, the Zodiacal sign
so often associated with nurturing, family, food, and security.
But the true abode of the soul is in the land of the unseen, the food that
feeds our souls flows from the life force that pervades the Universe, and
the only lasting security lies in the Creator-source of time and space.

Learn about This Season of
Deepening, with Dana...
"At the end of the world
a great wonder is supposed to appear in the heavens: A
woman clothed with the Sun, the Moon under her feet, and upon her head
a crown of twelve stars. I don’t know about the end-of-the-world part,
but I do recognize this goddess as a teacher of natural time. Wearing
the Sun and scaling the Moon, crowned with a zodiac tiara, suggests an
intimate knowledge with the cycles of Sun and Moon through the signs.
They represent our inner and outer seasons. ..."
