| What
does listening to the zodiac do for us at each moon cycle? It attunes
us to the yet living quality of this ancient rhythm. It sharpens
our senses to new ways to bring ourselves forth. It puts us on the
alert -- as an animal living in the wild -- to something new in the air... |
New Moon 'Scope
by Dana
Gerhardt
Years ago I had an astrology
reading in which the astrologer forecast my personal month-by-month agenda.
“In
January,” she said, “it’s time to get down to business.”
Later I realized she’d done nothing more complicated than describe the
essence of Capricorn, the sign of this month’s new moon. Simple as
it was, her advice worked well -- and this month I offer it to you.
That’s the easy part.
Trickier is the how of it. Perhaps a plan is already taking shape
in your mind. After all, you’ve had to roll up your sleeves and get
to work many times. And based on your Ascendant (how you begin activities)
or the house where Capricorn falls in your chart (where you’re prone to
direct effort), your plan may sound a lot like plans you’ve hatched before.
Funny how that works. Unfortunately this misses the fun of each Capricorn
new moon, when each new line-up of planets suggests new and unexpected
ways of playing the Capricorn game.
In this month’s chart, Venus
conjunct the Sun and Moon says “Consider attracting new business by
being as beautiful as you are dutiful.” If this sounds too much
like a zen koan, take your Venus inspiration from the environment around
you. Recognize that the planets do not rule us from far away, but
their energies walk among us and within us. If you’re in the northern
hemisphere, this may mean paring yourself down to essentials, like the
elegant simplicity of that bare tree in your front yard. If you’re
in the southern hemisphere, you may need to blossom with the confident
authority of that lovely bush beneath your window.
Listen for your right way
to bring Venus into this cycle’s business. Raise your desire nature,
cleave to your intentions like they were lovers. Then look for
opportunities to act in silky, intuitive ways (sextile to Mars in Pisces).
Resist that cranky know-it-all within (the sesquiqadrate to Saturn) muttering,
“It can’t be done, it can’t be done.” Turn your fear into the electricity
to confront the old realities. Whatever you choose, make this turn
through Capricorn new!

Meditate on The Wisdom of
Saturn, with Pythia...
"Astrologers don't typically
associate magic with the pragmatic sign of Capricorn. But no sign practices
earth magic as deftly as Capricorn, who, through mastery of the secrets
of time, yields forth the miracle of material
manifestation.
The name Capricorn, for instance, means "horn of the goat."
Used as a symbol of the
crescent moon in ancient myths and art, it came to
signify the cornucopia
or horn of plenty overflowing with the abundant fruits
of the Great Goddess......."

"My smart thesis dissolved.
Technological magic was as intuitive as natural magic… if you approached
it clean as a child, with an uncomplicated curiosity and a willingness
to play. And why not? Don’t espresso machines, digital cameras,
orchards and the moon all spring from the same great mind of the divine,
in thoughts as brilliant as birds and awesome as constellations?
