Sabian Symbol: "An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum; the imperative need to make use of the will in meeting the basic challenges of the inner life as well as outer adversaries."
What does listening to the zodiac do for us at each moon cycle?  It attunes us to the yet living quality of this ancient rhythm.  It sharpens our senses to new ways to bring ourselves forth.  It puts us on the alert -- as an animal living in the wild -- to something new in the air...

Pisces New Moon 'Scope

What’s in the sky this new moon?

Pisces is the sign of the Mystic.  And a Mystic wants no outside intervention coming between her and a divine experience.  This month face the sky with your Mystic self.  Clear from your mind how astronomers have named the stars or astrologers have interpreted the planets.  Simply enter the night and see if there is a twinkling light—a star or planet--that catches your notice.  Settle your mind and ask:  “Do you have a message for me?”  The answer may come in words.  Or it may not.  It may come as a feeling, a sensation, a new conviction.  It may come immediately or hours later.  Your work is simply to be receptive and reverent.  Thank the sky by agreeing to bring this message into your world—through a new decision or action, a changed perspective, an inspiration you share with another.  You may even want to name your star and commune with it throughout the month.

Pisces New Moon Blessing:  Trust Yourself

New Agers proclaim that New Ages are launching all the time.  I confess I’m a little skeptical at the flurry of emails each week, proclaiming how Great Cosmic Forces are opening Windows, or spiriting us along like Soul cattle across some Mystic Prairie.  But this month I can’t deny it.  Yes…  what you’ve been sensing is true.  Things have been moving faster.  The karma you’ve been sending out is bouncing back with lightening speed.  Everyone’s issues have been rising up with a greater-than-usual intensity.  It’s time to get on with it.  We’re embarking on a spiritual revolution that’s very personal and immediate.  Why?  Uranus enters Pisces this cycle.

Before an outer planet changes signs, there’s always a “clean-up” period, preparing us for the future we might be sensing but can’t quite see.  The bumpy ride of the past few weeks has hopefully scoured some of the rust off your armor.  You’re being called up for a starring role in a new and personally relevant epic.  The New Moon’s sabian symbol-- “An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum” -- suggests it’s time to cut through whatever holds you back.  This sturdy sword is both within you and bigger than you, having been wielded through the centuries, acquiring knowledge and skill the way magical objects do, if you’re wise enough to notice.  Call on the intelligence of your higher consciousness, whose purpose in these last chaotic weeks is becoming clear:  When you strengthen your belief in yourself, you’ve got the ultimate spiritual weapon.

Trust yourself.  A warrior with a sword feels confident.  If this sounds too Martian for mystical Pisces, consider how great warriors always take their strength from the higher forces they serve.  Preceding the Aries adventures coming this spring, the Pisces month calls us into our temples first, to commit ourselves to a higher purpose and to strengthen our faith.  This New Moon’s last aspect--an inconjunct to Jupiter—suggests you’ve made a recent adjustment in your beliefs.  You saw where an old view stood in the way of your future.  Hold that thought.  In about a week or so, after Pluto squares the New Moon degree, you may feel newly empowered--like the sword is in your hands and you know exactly what to do with it.

What should you grow this cycle?

My Tibetan calendar says this is a “100,000 multiplying month” – the good you practice this cycle will be worth extra points on the karmic ledger.  But exactly what should it be?  Astrology typically answers “what” questions by looking at houses.  Look to the house of your birth chart where the New Moon falls:  here’s your personal seed bed.  This is the place you usually “do Pisces.”  Every year at this time, you engage subtly or wholeheartedly in the Mystic’s path.  Quiet, focused attunement to matters in this house will help to spiritualize your approach for the rest of the year.  This house is where you’re routinely dissolved of your sense of self and been asked to consider the whole.  During this New Moon cycle, you have a unique opportunity here… but you must tune in.  If you have a meditation practice that’s faltering, then this is the month to dust it off (without guilt) and tune into the higher planes.  (If you’d like to explore this is greater depth, you may enjoy my seasonal/new moon workshop, Twelve Moons.)

  • "While Uranus transited the sign of Aquarius, it lit up the globe in a vibrant and sparkling telecommunications network. But in its visionary zeal to make the world one, it soared too high above the natural limits of human nature, dangerously depersonalizing our connections with each other. Uranus in Pisces, however, joins the heart with the mind, suffusing abstract thinking with empathy and emotion. ...."

  • Season Teachings, with Dana:  Believe in What You Can't See

  • "Goals at the start of any season often change in the course of it.  They’re not mistakes, more like eager scouts, taking us into new territory.  As the days unfold, these goals change clothes, dressing up or down, engaging our interest or losing it, taking the life they need to live, so that we might achieve the one we want.  I’ve found, and students in my Twelve Moons workshop agree, that our goals often quite naturally suit the seasons.  They unfold during the Moon cycle and deposit us, like an efficient mystery train, right on the doorstep of the next season.. ..."
