| What
does listening to the zodiac do for us at each moon cycle? It attunes
us to the yet living quality of this ancient rhythm. It sharpens
our senses to new ways to bring ourselves forth. It puts us on the
alert -- as an animal living in the wild -- to something new in the air... |
Gemini New Moon
June/July 2002
by Dana
Gerhardt
I’ll spare you the details
of how I learned about the angry dog in my heart. More interesting
is what I learned to do with it. On the morning of the most recent
full moon (this is the moon-phase laced with insights), I was reading on
the deck, when my 5-year-old step-daughter, buzzing around me as 5-year-olds
do, suddenly sang: “Like my mom always said, curiosity killed
the dog!” I looked up: “You mean cat.” We stared
at each other in confusion.
Oh, she was remembering a
line from one of her dog-and-cat videos. But the way it came out
so suddenly, from nowhere, gave me pause. This is how full moon
insights come. And indeed, I had a dog to kill. Would curiosity
do it? I reflected on the situation that had made me angry.
I allowed myself to walk past the barking inner dog and get curious about
all the details around the situation. After a few minutes, my heart
had relaxed and the dog was gone. My curiosity hadn’t turned up any
startling new information; rather, just being curious had softened the
whole thing and made it disappear!
Curiosity is one of the
powers of Gemini. Given that this New Moon just might unleash
a pack of angry dogs all over the planet, we might think of drawing on
curiosity’s power as deftly as Obi Wan his light sword. The New Moon
brings a solar eclipse and is conjunct rigid Saturn, opposed
by an I-won’t-back-down Pluto. Tension spots around the planet
and in our homes may flare. But instead of playing either policeman
Saturn or terrorist Pluto, we might get more deeply curious about what’s
happening. We might listen to what our initial instincts want to
shut out. We might soften and open our hearts. Do that and
I think we’ll all know exactly what we’re supposed to do next. Blessings,
dear friends. Have a potent Gemini moon cycle!

Meditate on becoming A Light
to Oneself, with Pythia...
"For many, the only way
through the impasse between stern taskmaster Saturn and heavyweight
Pluto has been to step out of the boxing match between these two opponents
- and center within. Traditionally, we are taught to repress our own instinctive
self-knowledge in favor of outer authority. But as the mystic J. Krishnamurti
wrote, "To go into the question of meditation, you must be wholly, inwardly
free from all authority, from all comparison -- Otherwise you can never
be a light to yourself. When you are a light to yourself you are
a light to the world, because the world is you,and you are the world."

Rebuild the Invisible, with
April...
"...The two weeks
either side of a solar eclipse seem to be times when intuition is especially
strong, stronger even than the ego's need for certainty and supremacy.
For this reason, it's a time when we sometimes feel a little unhinged,
but when wisdom is uncommonly available to us. And in these
last unhinged pre-eclipse couple of weeks I’ve had an insight into why
so much of my life is in turmoil at the same time.
